Through these research lines, the UNESCO Chair in Intangible Heritage aims to foster a social network envolving students and researchers from the regions where it operates, and that also works as a space for political discussion. The research results will be transferred to cultural managers and political actors, in order to make the academic information useful for consultation and decision-making.
Research Line 1: Traditional techniques, heritage and identity: a new knowledge-THINK.
The main goals of this research line are connected with traditional know-how techniques and heritage. These subjects has always been understood by the UNESCO Chair as having a great potential for sustainable development and educational activities.
The central idea of this research line is to organise and reinforce a network of good practices in traditional know-how techniques and heritage, where students and specialists can think about and deal with these topics.
Research Line 2: Preserving and recovering memories from the Southern countries – PRESS.
The main goals of this research line is to have room for oral knowledge studies concerning traditional know-how, its expertise and the interpretation of the ancient and modern social practices that have produced it. Therefore, to register the work of the last handcrafters should be a permanent concern, so that their knowledge will not be forever lost.
Within the framework of this research line, North and South will try to organise a new understanding of how to look with respect at their ways to produce goods. Furthermore, it is a relevant goal to provide an environment where it is possible to help create for each individual a sense of belonging to the community.
