Natália Albino Pires

Natália Albino Pires graduated in Portuguese Studies from the Faculty of Humanities at the University of Lisbon. Between 1998 and 2000 she was a lecturer of the Instituto Camões at the Faculty of Philology, University of A Coruña, where she presented her PhD thesis entitled O Léxico do Romanceiro da Tradição Oral Moderna editado entre 1828 e 1960. Since 2000, she has been a lecturer in the area of Portuguese Language Studies at the Escola Superior de Educação de Coimbra.
As a result of her research, she has published several texts on traditional literature, namely on linguistic specificities in the Romanceiro of modern Portuguese oral tradition; on the relation between legends and the collective imagination of the places where they are recited; on the construct of the image of the Other in literary texts (medieval chronicles and other 16th century texts). She has also published papers in the fields of ethnomedicine and ethnopharmacology (on the medicinal properties of the coconut – cocos nucifera L.), as well as on cultural tourism (with regard to the creation of tourism products based on traditional texts related to historical figures).
She participates in the following projects: Recovering the Dialogue (critical edition and study) at the Instituto de Estudos de Literatura e Tradição ( FCSH/NOVA) and Romanceiro.pt – Portuguese Digital Platform on the Romanceiro hosted at the Manuel Viegas Guerreiro Foundation.
