The SITIMUS project aims to investigate and preserve the archaeological heritage of the Roman Villa of Santa Catarina de Sítimos, located in Alcácer do Sal.
Discovered in 1977, the villa contains a bathhouse with a monumental swimming pool and a productive area that is still little known, standing out for the good preservation of the remains and high scientific value. To this end, the project involves national and international partners, including Alcácer do Sal City Council, ArchaeoSpain, and research centres from the universities of Évora and Coimbra. The main objectives of SITIMUS are to scientifically contextualise the site, increase research, empower and value the heritage, improve preservation conditions, train students and raise awareness of archaeology and heritage among visitors and different audiences. The project is a collaborative effort to promote research and valorisation of the site, contributing to Sustainable Development Goal 17, which aims to strengthen global partnerships for sustainable development.
