Empowerment of women through the art of urban statuary in África

UNESCO Chair at the University of Évora in PALOP

Tiago Cabeça, CHAIA PhD student and member of the UNESCO Chair in Intangible Heritage and traditional know-how at the University of Évora, was a trainer in Africa. The statuary workshops, promoted by IMVF, financed by the Camões Institute and with the support of the Unesco Chair at the University of Évora, which form part of the 2nd phase of the project “Empowerment of Women through the Art of Urban Statuary in Africa”, aim beyond a study on creativity and plastic expressiveness also the artistic training in statuary of women’s groups in S. Tomé and Príncipe (Oct 2023), Guinea-Bissau (Nov 2023) and Cape Verde (Dec 2023), as a celebration of the political and social action of women in African societies, which will soon be published as a book.

Contributing to female empowerment through urban statuary and investigating creativity and forms of expression in ceramics was the work of this CHAIA/UNESCO doctoral student at the University of Évora. Part of this relevant intervention can be seen in reports on TV S. Tomé and Cabo Verde.
